Same Sky, Different Ground

The app · coming soon

Read the country where you're standing.

Reading the Country is the book's field companion — open it anywhere on the Sunshine Coast and it tells you what country you're most likely in, and why it's there.

Not out yet — the waitlist gets early access and the founding member's price.

What it does

The rule, in your pocket

The book teaches you the rule. The app puts it in your pocket and walks it outside with you.

Open it where you stand

It takes your location and the lie of the land and points you to the right guide. A lookup into authored pages, not a guess.

Guides that go deeper

Every place, plant, animal and force opens as a picture and a few honest signs to look for. Then it goes exactly as deep as you like: In brief, The story, In depth.

A game of landscapes

Read this country shows you a landscape's cues and asks you to name it. Three levels, easy to hard — and every answer comes with its reasons.

A daily reading

A short daily set that brings back whatever you're on the edge of forgetting, just before it goes. A few minutes a day, and the skill sticks.

Works where the signal doesn't

Save a walk's guides, figures and terrain to your phone before you leave. Read them in the field with no reception at all.

The whole coast, pinned

A real shaded-relief map of the Sunshine Coast, with every visitable place marked — so you can see what you've read, and where to read next.

What's inside

Written for this coast, and nowhere else

Around 71 authored guides, covering the lot: its ecosystems — estuary, wallum, swamp, eucalypt forest, rainforest, sea country — its forces of rock, soil, water and fire, its places from Cooloola to the Glass House Mountains to the Conondale Range, its species from the koala and the glossy black-cockatoo to the wallum frogs, the bunya pine and the grass-tree, its seasons, and a caring for country layer on how the coast is protected and repaired.

Underneath them sit the concept explainers — podzolisation, the fire mosaic, why the poorest ground grows the richest flora — and guided pathways that walk you through a theme one step at a time. Every guide opens light and deepens on request — you choose the depth; the country sets the syllabus.

One promise, kept throughout

  • Every guide is authored. A person wrote it, checked it, and put their name to it.
  • Every claim is cited — traceable to its source and to the research behind the book.
  • Nothing is generated while you read. No AI writing answers on the fly.
  • Your progress stays on your own device. It's your walk, not our data.

Who it's for

Made for anyone who looks up and wonders

  • The curious walker — you want to understand the country, not just name it.
  • Bushcare and Land for Wildlife volunteers — you give your weekends to a patch; this tells you what your patch is, why it grows what it grows, and what it's trying to become.
  • Students and teachers — place-based, fully cited material for South East Queensland, from school excursions to TAFE conservation courses.
  • Rangers and land managers — a cited field reference that works offline, exactly where the work is.
  • Councils and NRM bodies — provide it, co-branded, to your volunteers and staff. That's a conversation of its own — get in touch about organisations.

The app waitlist

Be standing at the gate when it opens

The waitlist hears everything first: early access when the doors open, and the founding member's price as thanks for waiting. One email address, no noise — and while you wait, the free explorer is the taster it all grew from.
